Understanding who makes up the arts and cultural workforce—and how individuals experience their workplaces—is essential to building a sector that is diverse, inclusive, and reflective of the communities it serves.
Our Workforce Demographics studies use a simple, secure process to collect standardized, anonymous data on the demographics and workplace experiences of staff, board members, volunteers, and independent contractors.
Studies are offered at both the community level—engaging multiple organizations within a city, region, or state, often coordinated by a funder, service organization, or government agency—and the organization level, for individual organizations seeking insights into their own workforce composition and experiences.
Participants complete a secure, anonymous seven‑minute survey that gathers demographic information and perceptions of equity and inclusion in the workplace. The resulting data supports informed decisions on policy, hiring, retention, engagement, and funding, while contributing to a broader understanding of equity in the arts.

Engagement
We don’t just deliver data–we help you activate it. From visual reports to tailored presentations, we’ll work with you to engage your team and move from insight to action.
The success of any study depends on strong participation from staff, board members, volunteers, and independent contractors. That’s why we work closely with you to choose the right time of year and provide the tools you need to succeed.
Each study includes access to a participant dashboard with task lists, communication templates, and progress trackers to keep outreach on schedule. We also provide comprehensive training and outreach materials for all participants, priority access to our Support Center throughout the process, and reporting that compares your workforce demographics to the general population, giving you clear insights and context for your results.
We work with a wide range of partners on workforce demographics research. Here are some of our clients.

“It was great to have participated in the survey, sharing it with the rest of our board and staff, and even our constituents, and then seeing the results! It's rewarding to know how the arts make a difference in LA and that individual voices from all aspects of society and backgrounds can be heard and represented.”
