While the subscription model is not dead for the arts and cultural field as a whole, its robustness varies not only between the sectors but also among various organizational budget sizes within each sector. Each is experiencing relational revenue differently.

 

In 2018, earned revenue from subscriptions and memberships -- "relational revenue" -- supported an average of 6.6% of expenses (before depreciation).

The chart is based on 1,530 organizations that provided data each of the 3 years. The 2018 trend figures vary from the 2018 stand-alone figures because they represent the activity of a subset of organizations followed over time.
