New Data Directions for the Cultural Landscape

  • Posted Jan 14, 2014

The CDP released New Data Directions for the Cultural Landscape: Toward a Better-Informed, Stronger Sector, offering an assessment of the state of data collection and use in the arts and cultural sector, and recommending concrete steps toward a more strategic and coordinated approach to cultural data collection and use.

The CDP commissioned Chicago-based Slover Linett Audience Research to convene a group of 11 leading researchers from academia and the consulting world in an online dialogue about the current state of the cultural data landscape. They discussed how data is and could be used to help cultural organizations become more financially stable, more artistically and/or programmatically meaningful, and better equipped to both generate and demonstrate public value.

Participants in the forum identified a number of challenges the sector faces in terms of its ability to collect and learn from reliable organizational data, as well as opportunities to move toward a stronger cultural data landscape.
