Mario Garcia Durham

Former President & CEO, Association of Performing Arts Presenters

Mario Garcia Durham is the former president and CEO of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters. Prior to joining APAP in 2011, Mario was Director of Artist Communities and Presenting at the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), where he was a contributing team member for such programs as An Evening of Poetry hosted by President Barack Obama and Mrs. Obama and the NEA Opera Honors. He also inaugurated the NEA’s Artist Communities granting program.

After holding numerous management positions and serving as artistic director at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in the 1990s, Mario founded Yerba Buena Arts & Events in 2000, the producing organization of the annual Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, offering more than 100 free performances by the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Ballet, and others for outdoor audiences of more than 100,000 attendees.

In addition to the SMU DataArts Board, Mario is currently a board member of the Alliance of Artist Communities and the National Center for Creative Aging, and he chairs the board of the Performing Arts Alliance. He has previously served on numerous other boards, including Galeria de la Raza and APAP’s own board and executive committee.
