Art is Everywhere in Baltimore

July 6, 2010

Art is Everywhere thumbnailThe Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance released a new brochure highlighting the social and economic impact of arts and culture in Baltimore.  The brochure points out that Baltimore is home to more than 150 nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and that 723,206 school children visit arts and culture venues in the city each year.  Data was drawn from the Maryland Cultural Data Project (www.mdculturaldata.org).

An accompanying web site (www.artiseverywhereinbaltimore.org) contains in-depth analysis of the role arts and culture have played in Baltimore’s economic development over the past decade, and asks provocative questions about where arts and culture could take the city in the years to come.

“Baltimore is positioned to change the quality of American urban life,” write Nancy Haragan and Doreen Bolger. “Its population, diversity, density, and physical size make it an ideal incubator and test ground for new ideas about community in the twenty-first century.”
